What is a Bone Broth Reset?

There are different ways to reset with bone broth, with some opting for a fast and others incorporating food.

During a bone broth fast, you only drink bone broth, water, unsweetened teas, and black coffee. It’s a liquids-only protocol designed to help your body get all of the benefits of fasting, from autophagy (cellular cleanup) to a digestive reset. While bone broth fasting can be transformative, it can also be challenging, especially if it’s your first time trying something like it. 

During a bone broth reset, for a short period of time you drink and cook with bone broth throughout the day while also removing commonly inflammatory foods. It’s a good way to still get all of the amazing benefits of bone broth (more on that below!) in a way that’s a little gentler and easier to complete than a bone broth fast. 

FOND’s Bone Broth Reset incorporates four jars of bone broth each day, plus two reset-supportive meals. For many, this looks like a soup or a stew, but it could also be any meal that’s made up of ingredients from our reset-approved foods list (included in our guide). 

Why bone broth? 

One of the easiest ways to start supporting your gut is by drinking bone broth. It’s full of minerals, gelatin (also known as cooked collagen), and amino acids that help heal the gut lining, support detox, and fuel your body’s natural repair processes. We take it a step further by infusing each jar with herbs and aromatics that taste amazing and add even more benefits. How do I know if I need a reset?

We created this reset to support gut health, because your gut is the foundation of your overall well-being. Your digestive system does more than just break down food. It helps your body absorb nutrients and plays a big role in your immune system, hormones, brain health, and more. When your gut isn’t working properly—whether due to dysbiosis, inflammation, or something else—your body struggles to digest and absorb nutrients. That can lead to issues in other areas too, like your skin, energy, mood, or weight. If you’re experiencing symptoms like brain fog, inflammation, acne, digestive issues, eczema, fatigue, or unintentional weight changes, your gut might need a little love.

While most of us can benefit from a bone broth reset (we love to do one quarterly as a team!), a reset might be particularly helpful if:

How do I get the best results? 

It all comes down to planning and consistency! 

We recommend carefully choosing when you’ll start your reset. Plan around things like holidays, vacations, or hosting out-of-town guests. You want to choose a quiet time when you can fully focus on your reset. 

Once you’ve decided when to reset, it’s important to plan out what those three, six, or nine days will look like. What meals do you want to eat? What sips or other beverages do you want to try? Make a shopping list with the ingredients you’ll need. If possible, prep some of your soups, stews, or other meals before getting started. At the end of a long, busy day, it’s always nice to have a reset-supportive dinner already waiting in the fridge for you. 

Finally, once you get started, stay consistent. The better you stick to your plan for those three, six, or nine days, the better your results! Take it one day at a time, and be gentle with yourself, especially if this is your first reset.

Q: Can I choose different flavors for my reset?

A: No, our reset flavors are custom curated for maximum reset benefits. If you’d like to supplement with additional flavors in addition to the reset-provided flavors you can do so.

Q: Is this guided or self-led?

A: It’s self-led, but please join us on Instagram to share your experience along the way!

Q: Can I do this reset if I’m pregnant or nursing?

A: While the reset should be safe for pregnancy and breastfeeding, every person’s needs and circumstances are different. Please check with your trusted practitioner before starting the reset.

Q: Can I do the reset if I have hypothyroid or Hashimotos? Type 1 or 2 Diabetes? What about HPA dysfunction or another condition?

A: When in doubt, please ask your trusted practitioner. Especially if you’re on medications or a specific regimen for your condition, they will need to monitor your health during the reset.

Q: I need to take my medication with food. Will bone broth be enough “food”?

A: Bone broth is likely not enough calories/food to take your medication. Have your medication with one of your reset-supportive meals instead, or change around the daily schedule to work with your medication needs.

Q: Can I take my supplements?

A: We will leave this up to you and your practitioner! You can still take any supplements you need - we’d recommend taking them with one of your reset-supportive meals instead of with broth alone, since food often helps with absorption.

Q: Will I feel weak or tired during the reset?

A: It all depends. If you are used to eating a higher carb diet or are used to snacking throughout the day, you may feel tired as your body switches from being dependent on sugar for energy to diving into fat storage for fuel.

Q: Can I exercise during the reset?

A: You can, but it’s certainly not a requirement. Since our reset incorporates food, you should be consuming enough calories to safely exercise. Check with your practitioner if you’re unsure! And remember that exercise can be as simple as going for a walk!

Q: How much fat can I add to my bone broth?

A: We recommend 1-2 servings, which equates to about 1-2 tablespoons for most sources of fat.

Q: What can I add to my coffee?

A: Most coffee creamers are off-limits for the reset - even the “sugar-free” ones! During the reset,stick to black coffee or coffee with coconut milk, coconut oil, ghee, or MCT oil. You can add a little bit of a natural sweetener like maple syrup or honey.

Q: I don’t have a way to heat my bone broth during the day, what do I do?

A: Get an insulated thermos or tumbler that you like - we love Yeti, but there are lots of options! Heat your bone broth in the morning and put it in your thermos before you leave the house. That way, it’s ready to go when you need it! And FOND tastes great at room temp, too, if you find yourself in a bind.

Q: Can I do the reset for more (or less) than three, six, or nine days?

A: You can! Especially because our reset is flexible and includes a mixture of reset-supportive food plus bone broth, it’s a gentle way to jumpstart your wellness. If you do the reset for less than three days, you may not see the same benefits that you would if you did it for longer. If you have a health condition, we do recommend working with your health practitioner on the best amount of time for you.

Q: How much water should I drink?

A: Water is a really important part of the reset process! We recommend drinking at least 1⁄2 your bodyweight in ounces daily. Since bone broth offers naturally-occurring electrolytes, your body should have what it needs to properly absorb and utilize all the water you’re drinking!

Q: Help! I have bathroom issues, what can I do?

A: Oh no! Don’t worry, this is often a natural part of the reset process. Sometimes, things get worse before they get better. Digestive upset (for example: loose stools, constipation, or bloating) is often due to the bacteria in your gut adjusting to a different form of fuel. Especially if you have a bacterial imbalance or yeast overgrowth, those bugs won’t be so happy to lose their preferred fuel (sugar and carbs!). If you notice sustained diarrhea, vomiting, or other more severe issues, please stop the reset and contact your health practitioner.

Q: If I eat a food that I should have been avoiding, do I have to start over? Did I “ruin” my reset?

A: No! We’re not fans of all or nothing here. This reset is designed to support your health and help you feel well, so we don’t want it to add any anxiety around food or your health choices. If you ate something that’s not on the reset-supportive foods list, simply get back to the reset with your next meal. Please note that in order to see the best possible results from the reset, it’s important to stick to the plan as closely as possible.

Q: How often can I do this reset?

A: In part, this is up to you and your own health context. We think this reset is a great option quarterly (every few months!) as a way to realign with your health goals and get back to basics.

Q: What can I expect during the bone broth reset?

A: Everyone is different, but here’s what our founder has seen from others and experienced herself. Bloating will start to ease after the first day and typically be gone the morning after you finish your reset. Body pain decreases. Brain fog lifts and thoughts become clearer. Major decrease in sugar and carbs cravings. While you may initially experience some bowel changes, bowel movements will begin to regulate by day three. And finally, post-reset most people find an increased desire to eat more veggies, soups, bone broth, and healthier meals! For us, the initial hunger pangs on days one and two were more mental than physical. Our brains were used

to grabbing food whenever and they were rebelling against the new structure. It takes some work to change ingrained habits!

Q: What should I do post-reset?

A: We recommend continuing to drink broth daily, and easing into the foods you were avoiding for the reset. Don’t dive right into gluten, dairy, and loads of raw veggies! Instead, stick to the reset meal template and add in 1-2 non-reset foods at a time. See how you feel as you eat non-reset foods. You may learn which foods work for you, and which don’t.
